104.1 CHY FM will celebrate 50 years of broadcasting on Friday 1st December. We will kick off a year of celebrations with a MOVIE ON THE LAWN event at the Woolgoolga Brewery.
And what a party it will be!
The first 50 in the door will get a Birthday Donut from OMG Decadent Donuts. There's great live music from the Jam Jar, and when the sun goes down, the Movie on the Lawn will be the award-winning Tim Bonython surfing flick – The Big Wave Project II.
"Tim's passion for capturing the power of the ocean, the incredible surf breaks and the people who ride them is both fascinating and exhilarating. His film brilliantly captures the action so close, you almost feel as if you are on the waves," says Station Manager Angie Vaughan.
The Big Wave Project II was shot at locations around the world, including Nazaré (Portugal), The Right and Shipsterns (Australia), Cloudbreak (Fiji), Teahupo'o (Tahiti) and Mavericks and Jaws (USA).
The film, narrated by Australian big wave legend and world surfing champion Tom Carroll, features some of the best big wave riders, including Hawai'ians Kai Lenny, Ian Walsh and Kohl Christensen, Australians Jamie Mitchell, Kipp Caddy, and Brad Norris. In Europe, there's Nic Von Rupp, Conor Maguire and Tom Lowe; in Tahiti, there's Kauli Vaast, Matahi Drollet and Arrihoe Tefaafana.
And no big wave film would be complete without Kai Lenny, Andrew Cotton and world record holders Maya Gabreia and Rodrigo Koxa taking on the new Mecca of big wave surfing, Nazaré.
Being it's our 50th Birthday, the first 50through the door on the night will get a birthday Donut from OMG Decadent Donuts. "Amber from OMG is making a 50-donut Birthday Cake, and it would be a shame not to share it!" says Angie
