REVIVING TRADITION: John Townsend Golf Classic Returns to Celebrate 50 Years of 104.1 CHYFM on Friday 28 June 2024 “Stop thinking, let things happen and be the ball!” Ty Webb (Chevy Chase), Caddyshack

After a hiatus of one year, the highly anticipated John Townsend Golf Classic makes its triumphant return, marking a significant milestone for 104.1CHYFM, the iconic Coffs Harbour Youth Community Radio Station. Celebrating five decades of empowering youth through radio broadcasting, the station has evolved from a humble subscription service to a dynamic digital platform cherished by locals and visitors alike.

104.1 CHY FM stands as a beacon of industry-based radio broadcasting training, mentoring and volunteer opportunities for aspiring talents aged 13 to25. "The impact of 104.1 CHYFM resonates deeply within the Coffs community," remarks Station Manager Angie Vaughan. "Countles sindividuals, including notable personalities like Matt DeGroot (NOVA, Sydney,now in London, UK), Alison Paul (NBN 9), and Claire Simmonds (Channel 7), have honed their craft here, propelling themselves to success in the media landscape."

The John Townsend Golf Classic, named in tribute to the station's visionary founder, John Townsend, epitomises the spirit of camaraderie and community engagement. Major sponsor Guzman Y Gomez has reaffirmed their commitment to supporting this local initiative, recognising the event's significance."The enthusiasm displayed by Mick and Nicole Martin from Guzman Y Gomez isa testament to the enduring legacy of this event," notes Golf Day Coordinator Andre Boyer.

Participants will compete in an exhilarating 18-hole, four-person Ambrose,vying for the prestigious John Townsend Golf Classic trophy, a symbol of excellence crafted by master artisan Ian Hardcastle of the Woodcraft Gallery in Bellingen. Prizes abound for top performers, alongside engaging contests such as The Longest Drive and Nearest The Hole.

To cap off the day, there’s an exciting auction featuring an array of coveted items.
